The Carrizo Springs, Crystal City area (Zavala & Dimmit Counties) has a high population of resident Mourning Dove and is a well known dove fly way for migratory dove traveling to agricultural regions in Mexico and the Valley region of South Texas. Mourning Dove migrating through this area stop to feed in the agricultural fields located along the fertile flood plane of Nueces River winding through parts of Dimmit and Zavala Counties.
